With this series I hope to initiate conversation and help people talk about important emotional issues such as gun violence and diminished women’s rights. Making these sculptures is both emotionally and physically exhausting, but also satisfying. I constantly wrestle with the barbed wire because it has a memory and always resists change (kind of like people). Even more exhausting however, is the emotional investment in the piece. As I work, I am constantly thinking about the issue I am addressing and it drains me. My emotions and feelings are embedded in these pieces as I make them, and I hope that viewers get a sense of those feelings and my experience.
